Twins Buxton blasts two homers in rout of Nats
Buxton's 4-for-5 performance leads Twins to 11-0 victory
Outfielder now has seven homers this season
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Byron Buxton hit two home runs and drove in four runs as the Minnesota Twins routed the Washington Nationals 11-0 on Sunday afternoon at Target Field.
Buxton put the Twins on the board with a solo homer in the first inning off Nationals starter Patrick Corbin. He added a two-run shot in the third inning, and later scored on a groundout by Jorge Polanco to give the Twins a 4-0 lead.
The Twins tacked on four more runs in the fourth inning, including a two-run double by Buxton. Eddie Rosario and Ehire Adrianza added RBI singles in the inning to give the Twins an 8-0 lead.
Buxton's second homer of the game was his seventh of the season, which leads the American League. He is now batting .324 with 20 RBIs in 34 games this season.
Corbin (0-3) took the loss for the Nationals, allowing five runs on seven hits in three innings. Twins starter Jake Odorizzi (4-2) earned the win, allowing just one hit and two walks in six innings of work.
